Electronic (Using your CalCareer Account) The CalSTRS General Counsel Branch is seeking a motivated individual to work as an Attorney on the Litigation Services Team. Under direction of the Assistant General Counsel and the General Counsel, the Litigation Counsel works with discretion and independence and is expected to practice litigation in complex areas of the Teachers' Retirement Law. The Litigation Counsel is responsible for providing sensitive legal services of average difficulty in connection with CalSTRS activities, and will represent CalSTRS in, and/or oversee and work with outside counsel on administrative hearings, writ proceedings, litigation, and other legal proceedings.       Special Requirements Statement of Qualifications

Your SOQ should not exceed two pages and describe your experience with the legal issues outlined below. Give specific examples of your experience, including your role and responsibilities. 1. Describe in detail your litigation experience as it applies to:

      a. Administrative Hearings Proceedings b. Appeals c. Jury or Bench Trials d. Alternate Dispute Resolution

      2. Describe your experience with pretrial proceedings, including law and motion, discovery and depositions.

      Background Investigation

      Prior to employment with CalSTRS, a background investigation (BI) will be conducted. The BI consists of a Personal History Statement and fingerprinting through the Department of Justice. The BI will check criminal and civil records and, if applicable, verify education and check driving records.

      The position may be subject to the disclosure and disqualification requirements concerning economic conflict of interest in government work, pursuant to the CalSTRS Conflict of Interest Code and the Political Reform Act.
