We call it Rethink Tomorrow.Join our Microbe Strain Engineering team as an Scientist or Senior ScientistAs a member of the Microbe Strain Engineering team, you will have the opportunity to work with talented colleagues to develop insights into a diverse collection of microbes, as the team researches and develops microbial solutions for customers across many industries. You will work within cross-disciplinary teams with expertise in biotechnology, molecular biology, biochemistry, chemistry, microbial physiology, fermentation, bioinformatics, automation and microbial omics.Welcome to Microbe Research in R& DIn Microbe Research we discover and develop the next microbial solutions for a better world. You will be part of a team of passionate Zymers working to unlock the potential of bacteria, yeast and fungi. We work together with local colleagues focusing on automation, genomics, assays and fermentation, as well as R& D colleagues across all of Novozymes, including application areas, such as animal and human health, bioenergy and sustainable agriculture. We enjoy a collaborative working environment with a shared vision for pursuing goals that matter, working smart and enjoying the scientific journey.In this role you'll make an impact by:Engineering microbial metabolic pathways including bacteria, yeast, and/or filamentous fungi to develop improved microbial solutions.Uncovering connections between genotypes and key phenotypes, to open the door to developing more effective microbial solutions.Utilizing a variety of data sources (genomics, proteomics, metabolomics) to generate data driven insights.Working well in teams to unlock applications and biological insights only attainable by working with others.Proposing ideas and hypotheses to generate microbial solutions related to growth areas including Bio-Health and Human Nutrition.Identifying opportunities for developing microbial products with improved performance and increased customer value.You preferably have:An innovative mind-set and can-do attitude coupled with an enthusiasm for using applied microbiology to bring biosolutions to the world.An PhD in Microbiology, Genetics, Food Science, Biochemical Engineering, Biochemistry or a related technical field.Experience using genomics, metabolomics, transcriptomics and/or proteomics data sets to generate insights and ideasExperience with in vitro and/or cell extract enzyme assays for pathway performance analysisExperience with identification of heterologous enzyme candidates for improved pathway function and performance.Experience with gene expression modulation strategies aimed toward tailoring pathway functionExcellent computational and computer skills, including some experience with statistical software such as JMP or R and/or experience with Python, SQL or other computational environments.A strong desire to work as a member of an empowered, cross-disciplinary problem-solving teamA mindset that embraces challenging science, recognizes change as opportunity and finds satisfaction in team successAdditional Information:The specific job level offered will depend on qualifications.This job will be located at our microbe innovation hub in Davis, CA.Are you passionate about making a sustainable impact, and do you see yourself in this position?
